  • In this course students will develop an understanding of modern Computer Science and develop proficiency with a variety of digital tools and environments. The class will discuss current issues of digital identity, intellectual property ownership, information location and assessment, Internet publishing, and the basic elements of computer programming. Students will work with a variety of tools such as Microsoft Office, free tools availabe on line and a simple programming language.

  • In this elective, 10th grade students will explore a variety of digital tools which they can use to communicate and express ideas. First we'll review some of the issues and risks involved in being a digital citizen. Then we'll work with a range of editing tools, including on line presentation and word processing tools and editing tools for audio and video. Once each student has gained sufficient proficiency with these tools, they will work on a longer-term project to designed to demonstrate their creativity and show the skills they've acquired.

  • This course will focus on helping students develop the logical thinking and analysis skills necessary to write computer programs. While itself programming is a highly specialized skill, the logical thought process student learnĀ as they become better programmers helps them become more creative problem-solvers. Students will explore simple programming by writing a list of commands which will create geometric designs. Working in teams they will learn to design and program Lego robots, first using a graphical programming tool and later by learning the "C" language. Possible additional topics include game design and animation.
